Invitation for American Power, a collaborative audiovisual project between cello player Lee Friedlander and photographer Mitch Epstein at the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis.

Epstein’s photograph of a coal plant displaying a gigantic American flag was a perfect substitute for the title on the front page. ‘American Power’ is, however, printed with a transparent varnish on top of the image in a custom lettering (which later evolved into Samo) to make the image dialogue with text the same way the photographer would collaborate with the musician on this evening.
